KATIE GIVES A HELPING HAND TO THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF HOBOKEN

When Hurricane Sandy hit … it hit Hoboken, New Jersey hard. A quarter of the city was flooded, including 1,700 homes and dozens of public buildings, including the Boys and Girls Club on Jefferson Street. That club is an after-school refuge for hundreds of kids, and four feet of water and gasoline threatened to shutter its doors forever. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County has been in the forefront of youth development for 119 years.  We are dedicated to enabling all young people – especially those who need us most – to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens of the communities that we serve.

Operating in Jersey City since 1893 and in Hoboken since 1984, we serve thousands of youth, ages 5-21, each year in our sites.  We offer comprehensive and quality programming in three major age groups:

Our philosophy is simple; by providing services to children at an early age and giving them encouragement and positive experiences, we offer a compelling alternative to youth crime, gang membership, drugs, and other negative influences that effect our youth today.  We give them the guidance they need to be successful adults and give back to their community.

We promote the development of young people by instilling in them a sense of confidence, responsibility, and belonging.  We are devoted to changing our community for the better by investing in Hudson County’s most valuable asset: our children.
